A client from Chesterfield brought his Legend trailer to Extreme Audio in Midlothian for an audio system and lighting upgrade. This client is a friend of a client who owns a Bel Air and Corvette. After seeing the work we did on the Bel Air, he called us to plan to upgrade his Trailmaster Race Series tandem axle trailer as soon as he took delivery from the local Legend dealer.
Trailer Lighting Upgrade
The first order of business was to add custom lighting to this classy car-hauler. We ran four long strips of RGB LED lighting along the trailer’s ceiling and two additional strips along the underside of the chassis. An XK Glow controller handles the lights and works with the client’s smartphone to choose colors or light-shifting patterns. We upgraded each of the four light output channels with a Wet Sounds RGB amplifier to ensure each strip of lights would be clear and bright. We also added three Infinite Offroad rock light pods under the upper storage cabinets to illuminate the work surface at the front of the trailer.
A small control panel mounted under the storage cabinet shows battery voltage. It also has dedicated control switches for the interior, exterior and work lights, and a main power switch for the sound system.
Extreme Audio Adds Big Sound
The client wanted an audio system that would be clear and sound great. We installed four JVC speakers in the overhead wire channels that run along the side and roof panels joint. The speakers are powered by a Sony MEX-N5300BT single-DIN CD receiver with Bluetooth mounted under the upper storage compartment.
We added a subwoofer to give the audio system the richness the client wanted. The subwoofer output of the Sony radio feeds to a Sony XM-GS100 monoblock amplifier that is mounted in one of the lower storage cabinets. This amp can produce 330 watts of power to ensure the Alpine S-SB10V subwoofer sounds excellent. The S-SB10V is an enclosed subwoofer system with a 10-inch Alpine Type-S subwoofer in a custom-designed vented enclosure. We secured the sub to the trailer so it won’t move around while towing the client’s custom truck.
We wrapped up the audio system installed by configuring the crossovers on the radio to work with the speakers and the subwoofer so the sound from both blends together smoothly.
Custom Car-Hauler Trailer Project
When the client returned to Extreme Audio to pick the trailer, we showed him the lighting and helped him install the XK Glow app on his smartphone. We explained how the radio worked, then showed him how to stream audio from his phone to the sound system. He was thrilled with the way everything turned out and was excited to get this trailer on the road to the next car show.
