A client from down in Chesapeake recently contacted the team at Extreme Audio about upgrading her 2017 Polaris Slingshot with new speakers, an amplifier and more lighting. The sound system she had already installed in the vehicle was experiencing noise problems, and the source unit lacked the connectivity features she wanted. After inspecting the vehicle and the stereo, we put together a proposal to fix what was there and add the upgrades she wanted to help show off her Slingshot at cruise nights and other events.
Polaris Gets Sony Radio Upgrade

The first order of business was to install a new Sony XAV-AX7000 multimedia receiver in the dash of the Slingshot. Not only does this radio offer state-of-the-art Bluetooth hands-free and audio streaming options, it includes both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone connectivity. These technologies allow the driver to use the voice recognition technology in her phone to select the music she wants, make phone calls, send text messages or get turn-by-turn navigation instructions to almost anywhere in North America.
This Sony radio’s bright display includes an anti-glare coating, something that’s ideal for powersports applications like this Slingshot and works better than anything else in convertibles. The front panel’s weather-resistant design means that while it’s not waterproof, it can handle a little rain now and then.
ARC Audio Amplifier for External Slingshot Speakers
The client wanted more speakers on the Slingshot so she could show it off when parked. We started by replacing the speaker enclosures behind the headrests with new units with forward- and rearward-facing speakers. We mounted a set of Wet Sounds Recon 6-S RGB speakers on the rear of the enclosures.
Next, our team fabricated a set of speaker mounting pods that fit behind the front fenders. Each pod is home to another pair of the Recon 6-S speakers. The client chose these speakers because of their impressive efficiency and their built-in LED lighting. We used an XK Chrome RGB LED controller to operate the new speakers and the existing lighting on the vehicle. The last step was to install an ARC Audio X2 450.2 amplifier to drive the new speakers. This compact amplifier can produce as much as 125 watts of power from each channel.
Richmond’s Best Powersports Audio Upgrades
With the new radio, speakers and amplifier installed and configured, the client returned to Extreme Audio to pick up her Slingshot. She loved the way the upgraded audio system sounds, and the lighting was exactly what she was after. If your powersports vehicle needs an upgrade, drop by our store in Mechanicsville or Midlothian, give us a call or send our team an e-mail using the contact form.
